Tackling Endometriosis With Turmeric
Having endometriosis can be so difficult in daily life. I've spoken about it before on my blog and try to help educate other sufferers with any research I come across where possible such as help with laparoscopic procedures and gluten free diets. While you can't eradicate endometriosis completely, you can help to improve symptoms and in this blog I explore the effect that Turmeric has on the body.
Firstly what is turmeric?
Turmeric is a spice derived from a root that is in the same family as ginger. Traditionally, it has been used as a spice - it’s the main ingredient in many different Indian dishes, and is also used as a dye! Turmeric has also been used as a medicinal herb for hundreds if not thousands of years. Ayurveda, the name for traditional Indian medicine, has used turmeric to treat a wide variety of conditions. It has been proven to be an effective treatment for pain and inflammation. And it’s also been found to be able to improve people’s mood, prevent depression and improve brain function and memory. It’s also a powerful antioxidant.
Knowing this about turmeric, it should be no surprise that it also believed to reduce inflammation and pain associated with endometriosis.
Specifically, turmeric is supposedly able to effectively limit the disease progression of endometriosis. It is thought to help reduce oestrogen levels enough to limit the growth of endometrial cells. This therefore can provide considerable relief from the pain and discomfort which those who suffer from the disease that deal with this on a near constant basis (everyday)! Animal studies and anecdotal evidence have helped further show how effective turmeric can be in treating endometriosis and its symptoms.
If you suffer from endometriosis, like myself, then consider adding turmeric to your diet. Most of us will do anything to eradicate some of the endometriosis symptoms; so adding this to your diet is worth a shot. Talking of shot's you can take turmeric in shot form! Taking turmeric in drink form can provide you with a concentrated dose that allow you to experience the benefits of turmeric.
I trialled 14 days in a row of turmeric shots that were gifted to me from The Turmeric Co. I took them every morning on an empty stomach. The taste wasn't incredible and it was spicy; but if it's making me healthier then it is so worth it! I'll be honest - in the 14 days i'm not sure i felt any physical effects, however it is so hard to tell with endometriosis as pain is so sporadic and therefore there are no markers to compare too! However, having the knowledge that even the smallest of microscopic reduction to the cells could have been taking place is enough to convince me to keep up with having turmeric in my daily life!
If you want to try the shots make sure you head to The Turmeric Co website and order some. See below the flavours that I tried in my 14 day trial!
I hope that this blog helps some sufferers in getting some pain relief and some reduction in inflammation! Let me know if you give it a go!
With Love,
Leanne xx
