7 Tips To Strengthen Your Smile
We can put our teeth through a lot in search of the perfect smile – bleaching, lasering, whitening strips – but when you know how to strengthen teeth more naturally and less harshly, it’s really not that tricky. It’s all about developing good habits. These seven tips will help you protect your beautiful smile.
1. Drink water
Water is by far the best beverage when it comes to your teeth, so drinking plenty of it is a great idea.
In addition to drinking water, it’s good to get into the habit of rinsing your mouth out after eating or drinking foods that can potentially cause your teeth to weaken… which we’re going to come on to next.
2. Brush twice a day
Brushing in the morning and in the evening is a vital part of good oral hygiene, and will help protect your pearly whites. Overnight your mouth will collect microbes, which can lead to plaque build up, so if you thought you could skip the morning scrub, think again.
Brushing last thing at night is key too, as this removes food particles, which helps to inhibit the growth of those microbes overnight.
3. Choose a quality toothpaste
Another key aspect when it comes to how to strengthen teeth is using quality toothpaste. You want something that helps protect and strengthen tooth enamel, so that it remains strong and doesn’t break down.
The extra money you may spend on buying a quality product will save you on dental fees in the long run. If you’d like to know more about how to strengthen enamel you can read here.
4. Floss daily
Brushing your teeth twice daily will help protect surfaces, gums and some of the crevices, but not all. Food particles can build up in between your gnashers, and that can encourage bacteria growth and, in turn, the deterioration of teeth and even gum disease.
To fight back you should floss or interdentally brush daily to make sure you’re clearing particles away and stopping plaque forming in those hard-to-reach places.
5. Visit your dentist regularly
A thorough oral hygiene regime will certainly help you protect your teeth and maintain that beautiful smile, but professional check ups are essential to help keep it that way.
A visit to your dentist every six months allows them to check you’re doing things right, highlight any problem areas and address any issues before they can become a bigger deal.
6. Limit food and drink high in sugar and acid
The acid found in certain foods and drink can cause softening of the tooth enamel and lead to cavities, so avoiding them as much as you can is a really good idea.
When it comes to sugary products, the bacteria that’s found in plaque turns the sugar into acid, which can cause erosion. Things like cakes, fizzy drinks and sweets should be eaten in moderation, and cleaning teeth after consuming will help limit their impact.
7. Protect them!
All of the above tips play a significant role in protecting your beautiful smile, but all that work can be undone in an instant by accident.
To avoid damaging your teeth, wear a mouth guard when you play sports, and stick to using your teeth for eating food, not for opening bottle tops.
Incorporate these tips into your oral care routine and keep smiling!
