5 Things To Know If You Are Going Self Employed

self employed

Recently I quit my job to be fully self employed and wrote a blog post about it! I thought it would be a great idea to tell you the 5 things I have discovered so far about self employment!

1. It's not easy

I never thought it was going to be easy, and I think most people that want to go self employed love a challenge, it is what drives us each day to be better. But there will always be 12094343 tasks in a day to get done, because you no longer have the stability of not getting your tasks done at work and going home at the end of it. If you don't get your tasks done, you don't make money. It really is as simple as that! Be prepared to work the hardest you have ever worked in your life.

2. You need to schedule hours

When the pressure is on and your working for yourself, you do end up working way more hours than a regular 9-5, which is fine! However make sure you schedule hours to do other things to, like see your family and friends, have some downtime. This is absolutely essential for your wellbeing and will help your sleep pattern. If you set certain hours that you are going to work during the day, you then have a steady routine. Having said that, there will be plenty of times where you will be up working until the early hours of the morning solving a problem!

3.Things don't always go to plan

When you are the only problem solver, things can go wrong. You don't have an IT Support team to help you, just YouTube, and Google! Trying to work things out can be tough, and sometimes things may mess up. You may edit some website code and forget to save it all. You may accidentally delete something important, or send out the wrong order. This will probably happen, but its okay, just make sure you learn from it! When things do not go to plan, you can not just hand it over to someone higher up to fix.. it's on you!

4. It is better than employment

It most certainly is better than employment. You are doing exactly what you want to do, day in day out. You pick your own hours, you can wear whatever you want and you can explore what you are passionate about. It gives you freedom and often a whole load more money! I have not regretted a thing! I am healthier, happier and am well on my way to creating the life I dream of. Plus, with an employer your salary is your salary... my salary is unlimited and up to me to make it massive!

5. Invest

Investing is going to be make or break for you. Whether you run a business or two, or you are simply working on your personal brand, you need to invest in order to grow. It may be buying more stock, or paying for ads on social media, it may just be updating a wardrobe and paying for a photographer. Be prepared to sacrifice profits, and to reinvest them into your project.

With Love,

Leanne xx
